Finding shelter and fortifying defenses became easy within the first few months of the Apocalypse. Over time, demons would wait out certain fortresses around the world, starving the potential slayers within. After the massacre in Rome, where 45 Slayers were eviscerated from by an Ember Lahkesis monster, those who survived scattered to regroup. Dawn met up with a girl 25 years of age in India taking on eight bull horned demons trying to break into her home town. Dawn ran in with a broad sword in one hand and assisted the potential and dispatched half the group before they ran off. The girl's name was Kala. She was quite skilled with a bladed whip and a chopping axe which aided both their causes in tracking down the stragglers and having Dawn bring her into the Slaying fold. However, Kala was involved with another camp of vampire slayers along with her husband-to-be Girish. Judging from the scars they've retained and bodies they've burned, it looked there was an Apocalypse already going on before Sunnydale was reduced to rubble. Dawn wanted to help them while Kala pleaded her case to the group. This led to them searching for food. They haven't seen a crust of bread or decent water for five weeks. Kala, the meek individual when it came to voicing her thoughts agreed to go without question while Dawn kept a suspicious eye on Girish. Kala: Thanks for coming with me. If I had to hear another stomach growl from Girish's brother, I would lose it. Dawn: It's no problem; anything to help a potential slayer. Kala: What's a Slayer? Dawn: Seriously, you fought off bull horned jocks without anyone's help and you haven't heard the rumors about us? Kala: I heard something bad took place in Rome, but that was it. Girish tends to keep us away from radios and newspapers. "Focus on the real monsters out here." He said. Are you telling me these monsters are everywhere? Dawn: 'Fraid so; I was in Rome when this Ember Lahkesis burned away 50 Slayers after fending it off for three days. We scattered looking for new recruits. Kala: I'm so sorry. Dawn: I'll miss Trinity the most. *looks down while walking* Kala: Help me find food for my family, and we'll return in kind. Dawn: Your fiancée doesn't like me very much. Kala: He doesn't like any girl talking back to him. He almost gave me a black eye had I not obtained the strength to push him back. Do not worry. I know his weakness. If he doesn't "play ball" as Americans say, then I'll leave. Dawn: We'll talk.
